Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred to Springlands Hotel in Moshi. Relax and prepare for the adventure ahead while enjoying bed and breakfast accommodation.
Begin the day with a 45-minute drive (40 km) from Moshi to Marangu Gate (1,830 m). Complete registration formalities and embark on a 4–5 hour hike (11 km) through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut (2,700 m). A brief side trip to Maundi Crater offers panoramic views of Kenya and northern Tanzania.
Climb through heathland to Horombo Hut (3,720 m) on a 5–6 hour hike (10 km). Along the way, enjoy lunch and stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The night is spent at Horombo Hut with its serene surroundings and running water facilities.
Spend the day acclimatizing by trekking to Mawenzi Turn Hut (4,310 m) and returning to Horombo Hut. This additional day is essential for adapting to the high altitude and increasing your chances of reaching the summit.
Hike through the alpine desert of the saddle connecting Mawenzi and Kibo, covering 10 km in 6–7 hours. Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,700 m), where the stark lunar landscape and absence of running water signal the final push to the summit.
Start your summit attempt at midnight. Trek 16 km over 15+ hours to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) via Gilman’s Point (5,685 m). Celebrate your achievement with panoramic views before descending to Kibo Hut to collect your belongings and continuing to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.
Descend 18 km over 6–7 hours to Marangu Gate, with a stop for lunch at Mandara Hut. At the gate, successful climbers receive green certificates for Stella Point or gold certificates for Uhuru Peak. Transfer back to Moshi for overnight at Springlands Hotel.
After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your homeward flight, enriched with unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure. This journey through Kilimanjaro’s iconic Marangu Route, expertly crafted by Rift & Tide Africa, combines natural beauty, accessible trekking, and the thrill of summiting Africa’s highest peak.
